The Faith Formation Programs for children at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish 

are designed to nurture an ever-growing, life-long relationship with God.  

We offer faith formation and sacramental preparation for children age 3 through grade 8.

Each year we are in need of catechists to support the ongoing formation of our children. We provide support and education for all new catechists. If you wish to inquire about the Ministry of Catechist, submit your information with the link below and we will be in touch with you.

Sacraments:

Children’s Catechumenate - RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation of Children)

for children who have reached catechetical age (7 years or older)


The Christian initiation of these children requires both a conversion that is personal and somewhat developed, in proportion to their age, and the assistance of the education they need. (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, “The Christian Initiation of Children Who Have Reach Catechetical Age”, p. 155)

 

This is a two-year program for children who were not baptized as infants, who have attained the age of reason, are of catechetical age, and who will participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation at the Easter Vigil.


  1. Children will attend weekly age-appropriate classes.
  2. Parent and child will attend Sacrament Preparation Meetings periodically in the second year of preparation.
  3. Parents will attend Adult Formation Sessions the 2 years of preparation.
  4. Parent and child are required to attend retreats in the second year of preparation.
  5.  Children will celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) at theEaster Vigil of their second year.


A sponsor accompanies the child on his/her journey. All sponsors must fulfill diocesan requirements.

During the two years, special sessions are held to help children, families and sponsors prepare for the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation, and parents are required to attend mandatory parent sessions and retreats.


The celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation takes place during the Easter Vigil of the second year. The children then begin a period of reflection on the initiation process called mystagogy where they reflect on the sacraments celebrated and continue to grow in their faith.

Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion


The liturgical life of the church revolves around the sacraments, with the Eucharist at the center. Catechesis for the Eucharist recognizes it as the heart of Christian life for the whole Church, for the dioceses, and parishes, and for each individual Christian. (National Directory for Catechesis, pp. 113 and 124.)

 

The two-year preparation program to celebrate First Holy Communion teaches children about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

 

  1. First Holy Communion preparation is a two-year process.
  2. The earliest a child can begin preparation is in first grade.
  3. The child must have completed one full year of Catholic faith formation in a parish program or parochial school the year before beginning the second year of preparation at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.
  4. If the parish program or parochial school is other than St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, a letter from the parish or school stating that the child has been in the program or school the previous year must be presented at the time of registration.
  5. Parents or guardians must be registered members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish or a Catholic Parish in the Las Vegas Diocese.
  6. Parents will attend Adult Formation Sessions the 2 years of preparation.
  7. Parent and child are required to attend retreats in the second year of preparation.
  8. Children baptized in other faith traditions will make a Profession of Faith and then celebrate First Holy Communion.


 

Continuing Formation

Children in grade 3 and higher who are baptized, and have received First Eucharist will continue their formation in age appropriate classes. It is the practice of our faith that formation is ongoing and is a life-long journey.

2020Requirements:
• Parents or guardians are registered members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish or a Catholic Parish in the Las Vegas Diocese. Regular attendance at Sunday Liturgy is part of the formation process. 
• Registration fee is $150.00 per child. No child will be turned away due to financial difficulty. 
• Families must provide a Birth and Baptism Certificate at the time of registration, if not already submitted. 
• Sacrament preparation at SEAS is a family preparation process that requires the participation of the child and the parent throughout the formation years.

This is a hands-on, interactive working environment where children are guided toward a greater understanding of God’s love in their life. They encounter Jesus the Good Shepherd, who loves them, cares for them and knows them by name. Children are most sensitive to a relationship with God between the ages of 3-6. For this reason we provide formal faith formation for young children.
